Must Know Sites for the Download Junkie

This time around, I’m going to talk about a few sites that you need to know if you’re constantly looking for trying out new software tools.

If you’re the kind of person who always enjoys to try new things on your computer, you should definitely bookmark these sites and frequently visit them. You can quench your thirst by downloading plenty of new software from these sites 

Without further ado, here goes the list:

Download.Com

Download.com This is the first site that comes to my mind when somebody asks me where they can download software from. It’s one of the oldest sites on the net that has got archives of software for Windows and Mac.

A very easy to navigable interface is download.com’s plus. In addition, you have software that’s rated by editors and users. Editors’ reviews of software are very credible and are most sought, that’s one of the things the site is very popular for.

Similar sites include softpedia.com (it’s interface is not charming, though), and en.softonic.com (relatively new, but it’s neat and gaining popularity).

FIleHippo.Com

File Hippo.com lists updates for Windows software and lets you download them easily. There’s also a little update checker software that you can download. When it runs, it detects installed software and points you to download links to install updates for them.

Version Tracker

Version Tracker is similar to the above, but it lists the latest versions of software for Windows, Mac and also Palm OS software. You just need to keep track of the updates using the RSS feeds.

OldVersion.Com

OldVersion.com is a site from where you can download older versions of popular software like Winamp, Instant Messengers, etc. If you think the new version of the app is resource hungry, you can always find an older version here and enjoy using it!

You can also contribute to the site, by adding older versions of apps if you’ve got them. The site is very clean and easy to use.

Deligio

Deligio is like del.icio.us for software. You can search for your favourite application, vote for it, favourite it and see how people have rated it. You can discover new software by searching.

Bonus: Wakoopa tracks the software applications that you use on Windows and lets you see what applications are popular among users. You can also comment on software apps, and get recommendations from friends on software.
